Since I'm A Celebrity hit the TV screens 19 years ago, it has become one of the most popular and enduring shows in history. Despite the incessant spawning of other shows, I'm A Celebrity has remained its attractiveness over the years with the series set to return to the Australian jungle. After more than two decades on air, the show has introduced a long list of kings and queens and catapulted them into the limelight. I’m A Celebrity: Who have won the show over the years?
Tony Blackburn
Tony Blackburn became the first winner of I'm A Celebrity when the show was introduced in the summer of 2002. Born on January 29, 1943, Blackburn was already a famous name on TV before he became the king of the jungle. Blackburn, who is an English presenter, first shot to fame broadcasting on the pirate stations Radio Caroline and Radio London in the 1960s. Later, he joined BBC and went down in history as the network's first DJ to broadcast on BBC Radio 1 following its launch in 1967. Throughout his career, Blackburn has worked for BBC Radio London, Radio 2, Capital Gold, and Classic Gold Digital. He also had a singing career with 14 singles, most notably So Much Love - which made the UK Top 40 in 1968.
Phil Tufnell
The second king of the jungle was Phil Tufnell, a former professional cricket player. Throughout his sports career, Tufnell played in 42 test matches for the England cricket team between 1990 and 2001, and 316 first-class matches, mainly for Middlesex from 1986 to 2002. Right after he retired from the sport, Tufnell decided to follow a TV personality career. After winning I'm A Celebrity in 2003, Phil Tufnell went on to appear in various shows, such as They Think It's All Over, Celebrity Deal Or No Deal, A Question of Sport, and Strictly Come Dancing.
Kerry Katona
The 2004 series of I'm A Celebrity welcomed the first queen of the jungle - Kerry Katona. The 41-year-old was a former member of the all-female pop trio, Atomic Kitten, for two phases until her departure in 2017. Joe Pasquale
Comedian and presenter Joe Pasquale was crowned king of the jungle in winter 2004 after he became the first celebrity to win eight stars in the show. He was a fans' favorite thanks to his lighthearted sense of humor and recognizable voice. Some prominent live shows the 61-year-old comedian has performed in his career include Live and Squeaky (1996), Twin Squeaks (1997), The Crazy World of Joe Pasquale (1998), Bubble and Squeak (2000), and The Everything I Have Ever Done & The First of Many Goodbye Tours (2004).
Carol Thatcher
Prior to becoming the second queen of the jungle, Carol Thatcher was already famous as the daughter of then UK Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher. Her winning the show was a surprise to everyone including herself, who said that she was 'amazed, astonished and gobsmacked to the power of 100' to come out on top. Thatcher, who is a journalist and best-selling author, was loved for her humility and down-to-earth nature. From 2006 to 2009, she was known as the main contributor of the BBC One magazine programme The One Show.
Matt Willis
Busted star Matt Willis became one of the most memorable winners of I'm A Celebrity when he took the crown. Matt Willis became the sixth winner of the show in 2006 after a remarkable journey. The 39-year-old musician lost an incredible two stones in the jungle but still ended up winning the show. Throughout his career, Willis, who was once the bassist and the co-vocalist of the pop rock band Busted, released several chart successes and two studio albums.
Christopher Biggins
The adorable Christopher Biggins was a fans' favorite in I'm A Celebrity 2007 and ended up winning the show. Throughout the show, Biggins was loved for his funny charisma. Aside from TV, the 73-year-old English actor is also active in theatre, radio, pantomime, and films. His acting credits include The Sex Thief (1973), Eskimo Nell (1975), It Could Happen to You (1975), The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), Adventures of a Plumber's Mate (1978), and Tempest (1979).
Joe Swash
In 2008, Joe Swash became the eighth winner of I'm A Celebrity. Born on January 20, 1982, Swash was a prominent actor who has featured in a string of TV shows such as London's Burning, Hole in the Wall, and Minute to Win it. Prior to I'm A Celebrity's success, Swash was best known for his role as Mickey Miller in the BBC1 soap opera EastEnders. In 2020, Swash joined the twelfth series of Dancing On Ice and went on to win the show. Two years later, Swash married fellow contestant Stacey Solomon - the third queen of the jungle.
Gino D'Acampo
The winner of the ninth series of I'm A Celebrity in 2009 was Italian chef Gino D'Acampo. Since the beginning of the show, D'Acampo had become a favorite thanks to his sense of humor and chemistry with other contestants. Aside from owning several restaurants in the UK, D'Acampo is also a prominent TV personality with several television shows, such as This Morning, Let's Do Lunch, There's No Taste Like Home and Italian Escape. Since 2020, the chef has also been hosting the new revival series of Family Fortunes on ITV.
Stacey Solomon
The third queen of the Australian Jungle, Stacey Solomon first rose to fame when she finished in third place on the sixth series of The X Factor in 2009. After winning I'm A Celebrity, Solomon went on to star in various TV shows such as Loose Women and Celebrity Juice. As a promising singer, Solomon had her first studio album, Shy, released in 2015. In June 2022, she married her boyfriend, fellow king of the jungle Joe Swash - who won the show's eigth series.
Dougie Poynter
Musician Dougie Poynter won I'm A Celebrity 2011 after becoming a favorite with his sense of humor and fascinating bromance with fellow contestant Mark Wright. In 2003, a then 15-year-old Poynter was already the bass player for the English band McFly, whose first single Five Colours in Her Hair reached number one on the UK Singles Chart in 2004. Since walking out of the show, however, Poynter has been leading a private life and focusing on his musical career.
Charlie Brooks
British actress Charlie Brooks was crowned champion of I'm A Celebrity 2012 despite struggling at the beginning of the show. Born in 1981, Brooks was most famous for the evil role of Janine Butcher in the BB1 soap opera EastEnders, which won her a string of accolades. Brooks has also starred in various other TV shows, including The Bill, Wired, Bleak House, Celebrity Juice, and Lie With Me.
Kian Egan
Irish pop singer and musician Kian Egan took the world by storm as he won I'm A Celebrity in 2013. The charming artist helped the show attract 11.14million viewers at its peak - a record unsurpassed so far. Egan himself was already famous prior to the show, as he was a member of the famed boy band Westlife, one of the most successful musical groups in history. Carl Fogarty
'Tarzan of the Jungle' Carl Fogarty won I'm A Celebrity 2014 with his strength and aggressiveness. In the final, Fogarty shocked everyone as he eat live mealworms, fried tarantulas, live cockroaches, ostrich anus, and a camel's penis. Prior to his trophy, Fogarty was a famous motorbike racer famous for his competitive nature, holding the second highest number of race wins at 59. His racing career came to a halt in 2000, however, as a result of a serious collision the English sportsman suffered.
Vicky Pattison
British TV and media personality Vicky Pattison won I'm A Celebrity 2015 after beating Union J singer George Shelley and TOWIE star Ferne McCann. Prior to the triumph, Pattison was already a regular face on TV screens with notable roles in MTV's Geordie Shore, Ex on the Beach, and her own show Judge Geordie. She's also a regular panelist on the popular British talk show Loose Women. In 2018, the 34-year-old brunette returned to I'm A Celebrity Australian and finished in fourth place.
Scarlett Moffatt
Scarlett Moffatt, winner of I'm A Celebrity 2016, was one of the most famous names who was catapulted into the limelight by joining the show. Since her breakout triumph, the 31-year-old presenter has become a regular face on TV shows, with notable roles in Streetmate, Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, and The British Tribe Next Door. The Gogglebox star also continues to engage in live competitions such as Celebrity Catchphrase and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Celebrity Special. In 2020, Moffatt became the first winner of ITV2's Celebrity Karaoke Club.
Georgia Toffolo
British TV personality Georgia Toffolo entered the show as a relatively unknown celebrity with an insignificant appearance in the E4 TV series Made In Chelsea. However, with her charming smile and radiating positivity, Toffolo, also known as 'Toff' for her tough personality, won the show against all odds. After the triumph, Toffolo continues with her TV career, having appeared in Would I Lie to You?, Celebrity Gogglebox, and Celebrity Hunted.
Harry Redknapp
English former football coach and player Harry Redknapp became King of the Jungle in I'm A Celebrity 2018 after beating The Inbetweeners star Emily Atack and delighting viewers with his relaxed, easy-going charm. During his football managing career, Redknapp guided various English teams, including AFC Bournemouth, West Ham United, Portsmouth, Southampton, QPR, Birmingham City, and Tottenham Hotspur. In 2017, the 75-year-old veteran retired from football and has since focused on his charity-raising fund called Leukaemia Busters.
Jacqueline Jossa
English actress and television presenter Jacqueline Jossa beat Corrie star Andy Whyment and DJ Roman Kemp to be crowned the Queen of the Jungle in I'm A Celebrity 2019. Prior to winning the show, Jossa was most famous for her role as Lauren Branning in the BBC soap opera EastEnders between 2010 and 2018. In 2022, Jossa joined The Masked Singer Live and eventually won the show thanks to her incredible vocals, performing as Baby Dino. Jossa is still retaining the title the Queen of the Jungle as of 2022.
Giovanna Fletcher
British author Giovanna Fletcher became the winner of I'm A Celebrity 2020, beating Radio 1 DJ Jordan North and Family Fortunes host Vernon Kay. Despite her victory, Fletcher didn't receive the title of The Queen of the Jungle as the show took place in Gwrych Castle in Wales instead of the normal Australian jungle because of the pandemic restrictions. Fletcher has published five novels and is hosting the parenting podcast Happy Mum, Happy Baby, which once starred Kate Middleton as a guest speaker.
Danny Miller
Actor Danny Miller became the first ever King of the Castle after beating Coronation Street star Simon Gregson and The Saturdays singer Frankie Bridge. The 31-year-old star is best known for his role of Aaron Dingle in the ITV soap opera Emmerdale, which has earned miller three British Soap Awards for Best Actors in 2011, 2012, and 2016. Miller's other TV shows include Lightfields, Scott & Bailey, and Jamaica Inn.
