He worked in the media as a teenager
When Phillip Schofield was 15, he began his media career at Hospital Radio Plymouth where he worked as a volunteer presenter on a Sunday show.
A BBC children’s presenter
His dream came true when he was offered the position of booking clerk and tea boy for BBC Radio at Broadcasting House in London. Aged 17, he was the BBC’s youngest employee.
Television debut
Aged 19, he moved with his family to New Zealand where he made his television debut as the host of the youth music show Shazam for three years. Schofield also worked for Radio Hauraki, an Auckland-based radio station.
Children's BBC presenter
After returning to Britain in 1985, he gained national attention where he became the presenter for Children's BBC from 1985 to 1987, which was known as the Broom Cupboard.
Became the host of Going Live!
The Oldham-born star signed a contract to host the Saturday morning programme Going Live!in 1987. Co-presented by Sarah Greene, this BBC One's television series for British children aired from 26 September 1987 to 17 April 1993.
