From legends such as Daniel Day-Lewis to the newest stars like Tom Holland, numerous actors have taken a break from their acting careers, whether permanently or for a brief period.

Sandra Bullock recently said that she was looking forward to a break from her hectic acting schedule to focus more on her own spending time with family. The Die Hard actor announced his retirement from acting in 2022 after his diagnosis with aphasia. The cognitive disorder affects short-term memory for one thing.

The Spider-Man actor announced earlier this year that he was taking a break from acting. Holland also spoke of his desire to start a family and enjoy some downtime.

Although he has been busy acting steadily since Ryan Reynolds took a break from acting in 2013.

In 2022, Benedict Cumberbatch also seems to want to have a break from his busy acting life. The British actor has been very busy the last few years with numerous roles, including his role as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Although officially retired, Diaz has said that she has not entirely ruled out returning to acting at some point.

Many actors take a break from their careers to focus on their families and spend more time at home. Chris Hemsworth also took a career break in 2019 but has since returned to our screens, including in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Not everyone was taking a break in 2022. Channing Tatum was back to take on acting projects after a four-year hiatus. Tatum took on his debut co-directorial role in the movie Dog and appeared beside Sandra Bullock in The Lost City.

Jennifer Lawrence also took a break in 2018, after lots of success in her roles in hits like Red Sparrow and the X-Men series. This year Lawrence at four films in production.

After the enormous success of Titanic, Leonardo DiCaprio took a break for a few years. After starring alongside Kate Winslet in the box office hit, the actor shot to superstar status. In 2021, DiCaprio starred alongside Jennifer Lawrence in Netflix's "Don't Look Up".

The Olsen twins started acting at the age of six months and went on to have great success in the 90s and early 2000s. Mary-Kate and Ashley developed their series of films, including a New York Minute, When in Rome, and Holiday in the Sun. Since retiring from acting, the twins have focused on their business pursuits, which seems to have served them well.

After four movies in a row, actor Matt Damon took a break from acting back in 2016. Appearing on the Today Show, Damon stated the reason for his break was his family. The Born Identity star is pictured with his wife, Luciana Barroso, at the 78 Venice International Film Festival 2021.

Although there have been rumours that Emma Watson was taking a break from acting, the rumours were debunked by her agent. Her most recent roles were in Little Woman in 2019.

In recent years Joaquin Phoenix also took a break from acting to pursue his music career. Phoenix is best known for his roles in Walk the Line and Gladiator.
